How to use
- Select "Start" to begin, "Pause" to stop temporarily, and "Resume" to continue.
- Select "Lap" to record a lap time and its split. The newest lap appears first.
- "Reset" clears the timer and laps. "Full screen" enlarges the display; press Esc or "Exit full screen" to leave.
How the stopwatch works
The stopwatch measures the time since you pressed "Start" and adds any time from before you paused. For example, if you time 10 seconds, pause for 5, and then time 3 more, the stopwatch shows 13 seconds.
Accuracy and limitations
The display shows hundredths of a second, but that does not mean it is accurate to the hundredth. Your browser and device can affect timing. Use dedicated equipment for official competition timing. Nothing is saved when you leave the page.
Need a countdown instead? Use the Online Timer.
Specifications
Timing uses your browser's high-resolution clock (W3C High Resolution Time). "Full screen" uses the Fullscreen API and depends on browser support and permission.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a lap and a split?
A lap is the time since the previous lap. A split is the total time since you started. Both exclude time spent paused.
Does it keep counting in another tab?
Yes. The display may update less often while the tab is in the background, but the time keeps counting. When you come back, it shows the correct elapsed time.
Will it count while my device is asleep?
Maybe not. Some devices pause the clock the stopwatch relies on while asleep or locked, so keep your device awake while timing.
Are my lap times saved?
No. Resetting, reloading, or closing this page clears the timer and all lap times.
