QR Code Scanner

Read a QR Code from a photo or screenshot, or scan one with your camera. Review the contents before opening a link.

Images and camera frames are decoded in your browser. If you open a scanned link, you go to that website, and Google Analytics may record the link's URL. The page itself uses Google Analytics and shows ads.

How to use

  1. Upload an image, drop images into the box, or paste a copied image anywhere on this page.
  2. For a live scan, select "Scan with camera" and allow access. Center the code; the camera stops after a successful scan.
  3. Select "Copy" to copy the decoded text, or review the URL before selecting "Open link".
  4. Select "Stop camera" to stop scanning, or "Clear results" to remove the results.

Before opening a scanned link

Check that the domain belongs to the site you expect. You cannot tell where a QR Code leads just by looking at it. If an unfamiliar site asks for a password or payment details, go to the service through its official app or a web address you already know instead.

How scanning works, and its limitations

The scanner tries the browser's BarcodeDetector first, then the local jsQR decoder. It reads QR Codes, not one-dimensional product barcodes. Wi-Fi and contact details are shown as plain text; this tool does not connect to a network or add contacts.

Camera scanning requires a secure connection, browser support, and your permission. Blurry, tiny, or partly hidden codes may not scan. Check important results against the original source.

Library and specifications

This scanner uses jsQR 1.4.0 under the Apache License 2.0, loaded from this site. Read the license. QR Code is specified by ISO/IEC 18004.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded?

No. Images and camera frames are decoded in your browser, and this tool does not upload them. The page itself uses analytics and ads. If you open a scanned link, you go to that website, and analytics may record the link's URL.

Why can't I use the camera?

Allow camera access in your browser settings and close other apps using the camera. If your device has no camera available, upload a photo or screenshot instead.

Why wasn't a QR Code found?

Try a clear image that includes the whole code. Crop around the code and avoid glare or shadows. A code can be in the image and still be too small or blurry to read.

Does it open links automatically?

No. Review the full URL, then choose "Open link". Only web links (http or https) get an "Open link" button. Phone numbers and Wi-Fi details are shown as text.

Can I scan more than one image?

Yes. Select multiple images to see a result for each. Some browsers may miss codes when several appear in one image; crop them into separate images.
